“Makeup may come and go, but brush cleaning is forever.” I know, I know! I already hear you ladies huffing and puffing, but it’s my duty to remind you to clean your brushes and makeup tools at least once a week. Although it may seem like it is too often, especially given our busy and hectic lifestyles, the last thing you want is applying your makeup with tools that are full of bacteria, oil and dirt.

There are plenty of terrifying moments in David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows, one of the best horror films of the last decade. There are a couple of effective jump scares, though the blank look on one character’s face following one of them suggests Mitchell isn’t too keen on them himself. No, the film gets a lot of horrifying mileage out of people just walking toward the camera, perhaps never more brilliant than in a 720-degree pan in a high school with someone walking toward them from outside only to be forgotten about and never confronted.

On April 4th, 2015, I made my way to Ottawa’s well established jail-turned-hotel. Located across from the Rideau Centre, the Ottawa Jail Hostel’s haunting shadows lurked over the city streets. I walked around to the back of the building, through an eerily quiet parking lot, and to a dead end. Confused, I spotted a man outside one of the back entrances.

Playing alongside local hardcore and punk acts, hip-hop group The Adding Machine is bringing a new and raw approach previously unseen in the Ottawa rap scene. The trio, comprised of E.on, Defckon, and Yuukon, recently released their first full length entitled + + +. While it’s easy to draw comparisons to other acts, it becomes clear after listening to + + + that the group stands out.

It’s the kick off of summer music festival season this weekend with Coachella. Not sure what to wear when you hit a festival?
