[heading size=”15″ align=”left”]50. Waxahatchee – Ivy Tripp[/heading]
Waxahatchee has been one of those artists who seems to scrape the bottom of the barrel. There’s nothing wrong with Katie Crutchfield’s style of producing music yet somehow her musical appearance never accesses as much attention as it deserves. Ivy Tripp manages to be Waxahatchee’s first fully-captivating album.
Will Wiesenfeld is delightful. This is obvious after only a few minutes in his presence. Earlier in the day, he’d suggested via text that we meet at 4:30 at the venue in Toronto he was performing at that night as part of NXNE at The Phoenix Theatre. I texted back, “Make it 4:20 and we have a deal,” nervous about whether he would appreciate the joke.
In what sounds like a classic rock opus, PINS have done the unthinkable in 2015. The all-girl bunch have conquered the competition by turning their amps up to 11 and creating some good, old-fashioned rock and roll. While today’s music scene is drifting farther and farther away from Les Pauls and Gibsons, PINS proves that rock music is on the rise once again.
Bjork has released one of her strongest and most accomplished works to date with the album Vulnicura. A bold, cohesive and utterly heartbreaking hour that illustrates the unraveling and outcome of the artist’s marriage. The gorgeous album articulates Bjork at her most vulnerable and personal. “Lionsong” is one of Vulnicura’s biggest highlights, capturing one’s mentality as a relationship unravels.
It’s hard to live in this world without knowing popular songs about love. “Love Me Do”, “My Heart Will Go On”, “I Will Always Love You”, and so forth. However, in recent years, a dominance in breakup and heartbreak related songs have crept their way into the modern psyche of today’s culture.
A look into the young artist’s influences and contemporaries
There is no better way to introduce yourself to a genre of music then by diving into the influences and contemporaries of a new favourite artist. FKA Twigs and I have been in a one-sided relationship for over a year now. Her stunning and unique visuals, erotic and compelling vocals and mesmerizing stage presence all have me yearning for more from the young artist.
