Day two of Coachella’s second weekend had a lot to live up to following day one, especially the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The line up wasn’t as deep, lacking the early star power of Metric and Passion Pit, but that doesn’t mean it disappointed. The bands who were on, cashed in strong performances.
Just getting to Coachella had me wondering if it was going to be more trouble than it was worth. Two flight delays, a cancellation, one rerouting and an emergency landing in St. Louis – I was ready to be fetal. After a 24-hour day, I made it to Los Angeles. My Crew and I didn’t think it would take us another whole day to get to camp.
There wasn’t a hologram or a Daft Punk (in-person) showing at Coachella’s first weekend of the 2013 event. However, R. Kelly did make a surprise appearance with Phoenix, and Karen O tried to swallow a microphone; but not even a Sunday sandstorm could ruin the party. Don’t tell me any more spoilers or send me links to the webcast.
So when you think of Passion Pit, you may think twinkling sounds, high falsettos, whimsical worlds of heartbreak, love, melancholy, etc… you may just think of that advertisement with “Sleepyhead” in it, or their festival appearances all over the world. I doubt Juicy J (of Three 6 Mafia & “Bandz a Make Her Dance” Fame) comes to mind.
Chvrches is always welcomed by my ears when I’ve put on my headphones as of late, although with only 2 songs released thus far, the band have still amassed a large number of plays on my iPhone. The use of electronic elements feels redundant to speak of at this point (since it’s hard to find a new artist or group not using some sort of beats or synths).
