Mutant
Release Date: Fall 2015 After the pleasantly gorgeous Xen last year, Arca has kept himself busy with his involvement in Björk’s heartbreak masterpiece Vulnicura. The wonky producer recently shared news of a new album in the works, expected to be out this fall. Judging from already-released tracks from this year like “Sheep” and “Vanity”, it looks like the soundscape continues into stranger territory.
As Eastern Canada hides inside from another snow storm, let us keep our spirits up and heartbeats racing with these remixes from some of pop’s finest. Kelis is back on the promo trail with her album FOOD on the way. Check out how “Jack” creator, Breach, has whipped up a tasty dance anthem for the break up scorner “Rumble.” Download for free through Shazam.
Kanye West shook things up this weekend by introducing two new tracks and offering the world the first taste of his sixth studio album, Yeezus. The single “New Slaves” will feature Frank Ocean and was debuted through projections on city walls around the world, onto 66 buildings worldwide. The sparse track highlights West’s lyrics, staying simple but engrossing.
Yesterday, for Valetine’s Day, two of the most mesmerizing UK acts gifted the world with stripped down covers of Pop’s biggest songs with stunning and emotional results. The XX tackle the subtle and overlooked Beyonce songs “I Miss You.” The track is written by none other than Grammy winner and everyone’s current favourite, Frank Ocean.
NDMA is bringing a little bit of style, a little swag, and a little sex to Ottawa’s music scene. The DJ, rapper, and Concrete Runway host has just graced up with another slick video directed by Michael Cumming. While last time it was all about the club and the shots with “Whiskey,” this time things are a little more relaxed, a little more island-r&b flavour… but still, “she wants to dance.” The video follows the (sometimes) dreaded act of meeting the parents, when all the girl wants is to get a little freaky in the club, which the viewer naturally gets a chance to witness by the end.
