Azealia Banks Rethinks Being “Barely Legal”

azealiabanks1Azealia Banks offers up her chance for most random genre hybrid this week thanks to her cover of The Strokes’ “Barely Legal” from the Is This It? LP. Banks has payed respect to genres other than rap before such as her stellar cover of “Seventeen” by Ladytron and Interpol’s “Slow Hands” (see below for both). Banks does it right, bringing a very Nineties-club sound (as always) to the modern garage-rock classic, providing smooth and sweet vocals in contrast to the rougher and grittier original.

Banks has been busy, fighting with Baauer over a “Harlem Shake” remix, among other beefs. But also preparing for her long-awaited debut, Broke with Expensive Taste, with the first single “Yung Rapunxel” to be released on March 26th.

Listen to the “Barely Legal” cover:
