As we continue to find inspiration for our appearance through the latest trends from New York Fashion Week, the hippest street style and runway collections, let us not forget who the designers themselves tend to take inspiration from; the rockstar. The majority of major fashion houses have used the musically-gifted for runway shows and ad campaigns.
Kanye West shook things up this weekend by introducing two new tracks and offering the world the first taste of his sixth studio album, Yeezus. The single “New Slaves” will feature Frank Ocean and was debuted through projections on city walls around the world, onto 66 buildings worldwide. The sparse track highlights West’s lyrics, staying simple but engrossing.
There wasn’t a hologram or a Daft Punk (in-person) showing at Coachella’s first weekend of the 2013 event. However, R. Kelly did make a surprise appearance with Phoenix, and Karen O tried to swallow a microphone; but not even a Sunday sandstorm could ruin the party. SBTRKT, one of the premiere DJs of the past few years thanks to his killer self-titled debut (2011), has released a live album in vain of the Chemical Brothers, Justice, and the almighty Daft Punk. Above is a video capturing some of the show recorded. The album offers a great taste of what SBTRKT is about live, including a great vocal performance by Sampha, live strings, drums, and mesmerizing visuals which has all been captured by 12 (!)
